Fall Photos

I’m not sure that we actually got a decent family photo out of this, but at least the kids are cute. 😉dsc05328dsc05329dsc05330dsc05296dsc05306 dsc05307 dsc05308 dsc05309

Thanksgiving Turkey Beanie

DSC00706(pattern is for 6-12 mo. size)

Materials: I used an L hook and a double strand of worsted weight brown yarn for the hat, plus smaller hooks (I & J) and orange, yellow, red, white and black worsted weight yarns for the rest.

Gauge: 5.5 st/2 in. for the hat

Hat: Magic ring, ch 1. Sc 2 in the ring, ch 5, sc in the ring, ch 5, sc 4 in the ring. You should have 7 sc and 2 loops. Tighten the ring.  Increase by 7 each round for the next 4 rounds – you should have 35 sts at the end of round 5.  Sc around for 11 more rounds.  (16 rounds total)

Feathers: (double strand of orange or yellow with J hook)  Ch 8. Hdc in 2nd ch from hook. Hdc in next 2 ch, dc in next 2 ch, 2 dc in next ch, 5 dc in last ch. Working on the other side, 2 dc in next ch, dc 2, hdc 3. Loosely sl st 3 across the bottom of the feather, sl st 4, sc 2, hdc 7, sc 2, sl st 4. Tie off. Leave a long tail for sewing. Make 11 feathers in alternating colors.

Beak: Round 1: (J hook, orange) Magic ring, ch 1. Sc 4 in the ring and tighten.
Rounds 2-6: *Sc in next (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) st, 2 sc in next* 2 times. (6, 8, 10, 12, 14 sts)
Round 7: sc in ea st around. Invisible join. Leave a long tail for sewing.

Gobbler: Row 1: (J hook, red) Ch 5. Sc 2 in 2nd ch from hook and ea ch across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Work 2 sc in ea st across. Tie off. Sew one end to the side of the beak.

Eyes: Pupil: (I hook, dark brown or black) Magic ring, ch 1. Sc 6 in the ring and tighten. Join.
White: Magic ring, ch 1. Sc 6 in the ring and tighten. Work 2 sc in ea st around. *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next* around. *Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next* around (18 sts). Invisible join. Leave a tail for sewing.

Assembly: Sew the beak 2 rows from the edge. Sew the eyes on a little wide and cross-eyed. Sew the feathers from the top of the hat (behind the loops) outward so that they reach from edge to edge.

Pillows

DSC05533Blue Pillow

Materials: 6 balls of chunky yarn and size K hook

Front/Back (make 2):
Row 1: Ch 41, dc in 3rd ch from hook and each ch across.
Row 2: ch 2, turn. fpdc in 2nd st and each st across.
Row 3-40: Repeat row 2.
Line up the front and back and sc around. stuff the pillow form in before stitching the last side.  I think my pillow form is 16″, but I don’t have the package, so it might be 18″.

Green Pillow

Materials: 6 balls of chunky yarn and size K hook

Front/Back (make 2)
Row 1: ch 42.  sc in 2nd ch from hook and ea ch across. 41 sts.

Row 3: sc in ea st across.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you have a square (41 rows).
Line up the front and back and sc around. stuff the pillow form in before stitching the last side.

Baby Blanket

DSC04244I made another patchwork baby blanket – I am obviously a slow learner – but this time I crocheted the patches together instead of sewing them.  It was not much different.  It just made the back look kind of weird.  The front is pretty though, and the patches were super easy to make.

Perhaps I could make a whole blanket like one enormous patch.  Then, no sewing!  It would be very square, and changing colors would be interesting.  Maybe I’ll try that next time someone has a baby.
